Best Betting Tipster Sites & Services (2023)

Thinking of using a tipster to give yourself a better chance at profiting from sports betting? There’s literally tens if not hundreds of thousands of tipsters out there, all who claim to have the ability to consistently beat the bookies and provide you with handsome profits.

The thing is that most of these tipsters actually end losing money in the long run, as they don’t have any real edge over the bookmakers, or at least not enough to overcome the vigorish (the profit margin that the bookies build into their odds).

Worse still, many of these tipsters actually go back and edit their historical betting records to make it look like they are more profitable than they really are! This makes the world of betting tipsters an absolute minefield for the uneducated punter.

Thankfully, I have prepared a list below of the best tipping sites and services, to help you make an informed decision and avoid the bad players in the industry.

Paid vs. Free Tipsters

Before we take a look at the best tipster sites out there, it’s important to quickly clear up a common misunderstanding when it comes to tipsters.

It’s easy to see that there are plenty of tipsters out there who give away all of their tips for free. They often have a social media page such as a Twitter profile or Facebook group which is entirely free to join and in which you can receive tips every single week for free.

Noticing all of these free tipsters, it becomes easy to think - why bother paying for a tipster at all, if I can access others for free?

The thing is that very few people work for free - especially in the world of sports betting. I can assure you that very few people are out there finding, preparing and then giving away their tips each week out of the goodness of their heart.

In reality, these free tipsters are making money by using affiliate links to promote various bookmakers to you. The way that these affiliate programs work is that the tipster makes a percent commission on your total losses with the bookmaker!

Cyclists

That means that if they provide you with good tips and you end up making money from the bookmakers, they don’t earn any commission whatsoever. They only make money when you start consistently losing money with the bookie. In fact, the bookmaker will withhold commission from the tipster until your total losses exceed your total winnings (ie. you’re in the red with that bookie overall).

This means that the free tipster is incentivised to give you poor tips that will mostly lose. In fact, the worse the tips, the more profit the free tipster makes.

To align the tipster’s goals with your own (ie. making money), you have to give them an incentive. The best way to do is to pay a monthly subscription fee. That way they keep making money as long as they keep providing you with high quality, winning tips.

If you are serious about using a betting tipster, I highly recommend that you use a paid tipster or tipping service that doesn’t make from bookmaker affiliate links.

What To Look For In A Good Tipster?

So, with that out of the way, what should we consider when choosing a tipster to follow?

Verified Betting History

As I mentioned earlier, a number of bad players in the industry have been known the retrospectively edit their historical tips to make it seem like they are more profitable than they actually are.

This makes it extremely difficult for a punter to determine whether a tipster is actually providing high quality tips or not.

The best way to get around this is to use a tipster from an independent tipping site (such as Tipstrr or Betting Gods).

These sites require all tipsters that register with them to submit their tips in advance. These tips are then placed against their permanent record, meaning that they can’t go back and delete the unsuccessful tips later.

If you don’t use these verification sites, you leave yourself entirely open to being scammed by the tipster.

Large Number of Historical Tips

Low stakes but high volume is key when it comes to any form of successful sports betting. You can’t be sure that you will win every time, but if you have a genuine edge and keep placing bets, you will statistically come out on top in the long run.

You can’t say anything about a tipster just by looking at say, 20 of their tips. 20 is far too small a sample size to know if they actually have an edge, or if they just happened to get lucky with a few bets.

Remember that the survivorship bias means that the tipsters on a hot streak get the most attention. Avoid falling into the trap of using a hot tipster with a small tipping history.

Tipstrr and Betting Gods don’t let tipsters sell any tips until they have a decent number of verified, historical tips with that platform.

Strike Rate & Average Odds

Strike rate is a measure of how often that particular tipster’s tips are successful. For example, if 550 of their 1,000 tips were successful, then they have a strike rate of 55%.

However, this doesn’t tell you the whole story and you can’t compare two tipsters on strike rate alone. You also need to consider the average odds. This is an average of the odds across all of their tips.

Some tipsters prefer to go for longer odds and will therefore have a lower strike rate, whereas other tipsters go for shorter odds and should therefore have a much higher strike rate.

The strike rate in conjunction with the average odds is more important than either of these measures in isolation.

Also be aware that if you use a tipster that prefers longer odds (and therefore has a lower strike rate), you will see a lot more variation in your long term profits.

You may have long periods of many small losses, followed by a short string of big wins to make up for the losses. If you don’t like this, consider going with a tipster with lower average odds.

Reasonable Odds Measurement

Another common feature of disreputable tipsters is that they will have a misleading way of calculating the odds associated with each of their tips.
The typical way of measuring the odds for each tip is by taking the best available odds at the time that the tip is released.

Some tipsters, however, will take the best available odds at any point in time between the tip being released and the match starting as their odds for that particular tip.

Of course, no one has any idea when the best available odds will occur between the tip being released and the match starting, so almost no one is actually able to use these odds.

This means that the tipster is able to artificially inflate their performance by associating unrealistically high odds with each of their tips.

Again, the best way to avoid this is to use an independent service like Tipstrr or Betting Gods which have predetermined rules around how odds are assigned to each tip.

Good Number of Weekly Tips

As mentioned earlier, the key to profitable sports betting is low stakes but high volume.

A tipster that only provides 1 bet per week isn’t going to give you the volume that you need to make real profits.

Trying to get around this by increasing the percentage of your bankroll that you are staking on each bet is not a good idea as this will increase the variance in your results and increase the likelihood of busting (bankroll goes to zero) at some point in the future.

In short, look for a tipster with a good number of tips supplied each week.

One Sport Only

A tipster that bets on a wide variety of sports probably doesn’t actually have a real edge in any of them. To really get to know the ins and outs of a sport, it’s teams and the individual players takes a lot of time.

I recommend that you look for tipsters who specialise in something specific, like horse racing tips or Premier League football tips.

Now that we have taken a look at the most important things to consider when choosing a tipster, let’s take a look at the best tipping sites and services out there!

Best tipster sites

Best Tipster Sites & Services

As I have mentioned a few times now, I highly, highly recommend that you use an independent tipping site to find a suitable tipster for you. This ensures that:

  • The tipster’s goals are aligned with yours
  • The historical tips from that tipster are independently verified
  • You can access all of their statistics, such as strike rate and average odds
  • You can easily compare a number of tipsters with each other

So, which are the best tipping sites out there? Let’s take a look.

#1 - Tipstrr

Founded in late 2014, Tipstrr has rapidly grown to become one of the most popular independent tipping sites in the world.

The founders saw that the tipping industry was rife with scams and full of bad players, so they developed Tipstrr as a tool to add some transparency to an otherwise opaque world.

Pros
  • Excellent user interface
  • Large number of tipsters to choose from
  • Wide variety of sports supported
  • Excellent statistics and graphs available for each tipster
  • GBP, EUR and USD supported
Cons
  • Tipstrr are not entirely independent from their tipsters, they need to sell subscriptions to make money

Tipstrr allows tipsters to independently verify their tips on the platform, which gives punters faith that the quoted stats are the real deal, and not the result of some shady manipulation of historical data.

Tipstrr now hosts thousands of tipsters and has processed over 3,000,000 tips in total! They support 20 different sports, including less popular sports such as snooker, darts, handball and even e-sports.

On their platform, you are able to search for tipsters by sorting by sport or by a particular event. You can see a tipster’s full stats at a glance, including:

  • Average monthly profit
  • Return On Investment (ROI)
  • Average number of tips per week
  • Strike rate
  • Average odds
  • Total profit

You can also see a list of tipster’s entire tipping history on the platform.

Alternatively, you can see detailed statistics about their betting performance. For example, the graph below shows the typical odds that a particular tipster pursues.

Tipstrr will sometimes release a few free tips for a particular tipster, which gives you a chance to try them out before subscribing to them.

If you decide to go with a particular tipster, you will need to pay a monthly subscription fee to be able to access their tips. The subscription price varies depending on the popularity of a tipster, and is payable in USD, EUR or GBP.

#2 - Betting Gods

Another very popular option when it comes to independent tipping sites is the UK based Betting Gods.

Pros
  • Excellent user interface
  • Wide variety of sports supported
  • Excellent statistics and graphs available for each tipster
Cons
  • Not very many tipsters to choose from
  • Only GBP supported
  • Betting Gods are not entirely independent from the tipsters, they need to sell subscriptions to make money

Clicking on a tipster allows you to view their lifetime statistics, including:

  • Total profit
  • Average monthly profit
  • Win rate (strike rate)
  • ROI
  • Bank growth
  • Number of profitable months

You can also access a Google Sheet for each tipster which lists their complete betting history. You can independently verify all of the data yourself, if you like.

There’s also some key information related to each tipster displayed in an easy to digest format. This makes it easy to determine whether a tipster will deliver what you are expecting from them before subscribing.

Betting Gods important points

Personally, I like the Tipstrr interface more and I also find them a little more transparent than Betting Gods, but BG are still a decent option in my opinion!

#3 - Smart Betting Club (SBC)

A little different to the last two sites, Pete Ling from Smart Betting Club (formerly Secret Betting Club) runs a truly independent site that manually reviews the top tipsters out there.

I say truly independent as they don’t make any money by referring punters to individual tipsters, rather they make money when you subscribe to their own service, which offers monthly PDFs, magazines and a Hall of Fame of the very best tipsters out there.

Smart Betting Club

As they are funded entirely by punters, their interests are fully aligned with yours and they only recommend tipsters that truly outperform and beat the bookies. They are also committed to taking a long view, favouring consistent performers over tipsters that are on a ‘hot run’ at the moment.

They are not afraid of calling out bad tipsters and they will say it as it is, which makes them the right people to have in your corner when you’re trying to choose a tipster.

Summary

There are tens of thousands of tipsters out there, which makes it very difficult to choose a tipster that suits you. Some tipsters actually make money when their tips fail (thanks to bookmaker affiliate links) and others retrospectively edit their tips to make their performance seem better than it really is.

To avoid these common pitfalls, I highly recommend that you use an independent site that verifies performance before committing to a particular tipster.

Of these, I think that Tipstrr is the best tipster site and service out there. They have tons of different tipsters, they are very transparent with their verification and stats, plus they covers lots of different sports.

Betting Gods is a close runner up, offering a very similar platform to Tipstrr, although with slightly less transparency and fewer tipsters.

If you are after a truly independent tipping service, look no further than Smart Betting Club, where Pete Ling goes and manually reviews the top tipsters out there to let you know which ones are worth following.
