Betfair Broker – Which Is The Best?

Are you interested in accessing the Betfair betting exchange but can’t because it doesn’t operate in your country? What you need is a Betfair broker - an agent that can act as an intermediary between you and Betfair.

Whilst many brokers claim to be able to provide you with access to Betfair, many of them only allow you to place back bets. Others allow you to place back and lay bets, but you cannot set your own odds and place your own orders.

It is important to find a broker that can give you access to the full features of Betfair. In addition, they should charge a low commission on winning bets, and provide you with many low cost payment methods.

Winning bet commissions and payment fees can add up if you are doing a lot of betting, so it pays to do your research before you sign up!

Let’s find out which one is right for you!

Note: Agent style betting is prohibited in many countries. It is up to you to ensure that you comply with all relevant legislation in your country of residence. If in doubt, contact a legal professional in your country.

Betting brokers are not a way to circumvent Know Your Customer (KYC) verification. Brokers are required to ensure all their customers meet strict KYC standards to prevent money laundering.

What is a Betfair Broker?

Betfair is the largest and most popular betting exchange in the world. However, they do not operate in every country. This means that there are many sports bettors out there that want to access the Betfair exchange but cannot.

A Betfair broker is an agent that acts as an intermediary between the bettor and Betfair itself. By doing this, you don’t need to interact with Betfair directly. You tell the broker what to bet on, and they place these bets on your behalf.

This is typically done via a Betfair clone, the most common of which is the Orbit Exchange. It is affiliated with Betfair and has the same odds and liquidity, but is a separate entity. An Orbit Exchange allows you to place back and lay bets, as well as set your own odds with bet requests.

However, you cannot sign up to the Orbit Exchange directly, you must use a broker.

The broker makes money by receiving a fraction of the commission that is charged on your winning bets. They may also charge you a fee based on the payment method you use to deposit funds with them.

Note that many Betfair brokers also provide access to other betting exchanges and sharp bookmakers, which is an added bonus.

Orbit Exchange Review

So, how does the Orbit Exchange differ to the Betfair Exchange? Well, as I mentioned earlier, they both have the same odds and liquidity.

The two main ways they differ are the commission charged on winning bets, and the interface.

Whereas Betfair charge a commission that varies based on your discount rate (the standard starting rate is 5%), Orbit Exchange charge a flat rate of 3% on all winning bets. As with Betfair, you do not pay any commission on losing bets.

I’ll now give you a look at the Orbit Exchange interface and explain how it works.

The Orbit Exchange has much the same look and feel as Betfair. Upon logging in, you can access a wide variety of sports from the left menu.

Once you choose a preferred sport, you can either see upcoming/live matches, or search for a match using the dedicated search function.

As you can see, the back and lay odds are presented in the same manner as the standard Betfair platform.

You can then back or lay a bet using the existing odds on the market, or make a bet request by setting your own odds.

Single Match

Once you have placed a few bets, you can see your bet history, and a running profit/loss tally. There is also a ‘cash out’ feature for bets that have already been matched.

Options

There are also some casino games including a live dealer section in addition to the sports betting exchange.

Games

Orbit Exchange has pretty much all of the functionality that you would expect from Betfair, along with the same liquidity. A major benefit is that the flat 3% commission on winnings is lower than the standard Betfair commission of 5%.

What Should you Consider when Choosing a Betfair Broker?

Now that we know how the Orbit Exchange works, what should we be looking for when choosing a broker to use to access it?

Country restrictions

Betting brokers do not accept customers from all countries. Almost no reputable betting brokers accept customers from the USA and France.

Commissions charged

Different betting brokers charge different betting exchange commissions. These commissions can make a big difference to your long term profits, so it is important to look around for the best rates

Deposit/withdrawal fees

Most brokers offer free deposits and one free withdrawal per month, with fees charged for any additional withdrawals beyond that.

However, other brokers charge fees for deposits as well as withdrawals, or have conditions that stipulate that you must turnover your deposits a certain number of times before they can be withdrawn.

Supported payment methods

Bank transfer plus Skrill and Neteller are the standard payment methods for brokers, but some offer Bitcoin, Visa and Mastercard plus a number of eWallets as payment methods.

Minimum deposit/minimum bet limits

Bet brokers make their money from customers with high turnover. They are not interested in people placing small bets here and there. Many have minimum deposit limits of €100 and minimum bet limits of €5 or more.

Reputation regarding payouts

Some less reputable bet brokers have been known to withhold payouts from customers, citing a supposed breach of the terms and conditions.

Others have very strict requirements on withdrawals, requiring all deposited money to be turned over 10-20x before it can be withdrawn.

Unfortunately, a drawback of using a betting brokerage service is that there is no recourse if a broker decides to withhold your money from you.

They are typically based in Curacao or Netherlands Antilles, so it is virtually impossible to raise a legal dispute against them. The best thing to do is to choose a betting broker with a good reputation, such as the ones I recommend in this article.
